Mar 3, 2011 02:21 PM

iPad is very popular table computer in the market. Whether you are watching any streaming video or playing a slideshow you may want to capture and save it right from your iPad’s display. These simple steps will help you to perform video capturing and recording from iPad using a frame grabber. This device allows capturing digital video stream, encoding and transferring to a PC. In this example I will capture and record video using an Epiphan’s VGA2USB LR video capture device. You will need the following equipment and accessories - frame grabber, iPad, iPad dock connector to VGA adapter and USB A to USB Mini B cable.

Connecting devices

iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter

-     Connect the power adapter to frame grabber

-          Connect an iPad Dock Connector to VGA adapter to an iPad’s 30-pin connector and to a frame grabber’s VGA In port.

-          Using a USB cable, connect VGA2USB LR via mini-USB port to your PC.

Downloading Software

The VGA2USB LR frame grabber operates using proprietary software. You need to download it from the Epiphan’s web site. Navigate to the VGA2USB LR product page, download the latest software release to your video capture workstation and open an archive.

Start the Frame Grabber Application

-          Turn on the frame grabber and iPad. Click Start – All Programs – Epiphan Capture Tool to start the application. Capture Tool detects the connected frame grabber. If the video capture application successfully connects to and synchronizes with the Frame Grabber, the video capture application window begins displaying captured images.

-          Make sure the video capture application is displaying the captured images that you want to record.

-          In case the VGA2USB LR device is not detected, click the Select Device… command from the Capture menu and select it manually.

-          Click the “Record” button. It is located under the Capture menu and looks like a red ball.

-          Name the file and choose a destination for it.

-          Select where the recorded file should be stored and click “Save”. You are now recording the video stream from iPad.
